Victor "Vic" Streeby Obituary (1945

Victor Lou Streeby, 76, of Eldon, IA passed away on Friday, May 21, 2021 at his home. A graveside service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at the Eldon Cemetery with Pastor Mark Clark officiating. Visitation will begin at noon on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at the Cranston Family Funeral Home in Eldon, IA with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions in Vic's honor may be directed to the Eldon Fire and Rescue or to the baseball program at the Cardinal Community School. Friends may leave online condolences at www.cranstonfamilyfuneralhome.com. Victor "Vic" Lou Streeby was born on May 9, 1945 in Ottumwa, IA to John and Rose Mary Findlay Streeby. He grew up and attended school in Eldon where he met and married the love of his life, Sandra Smith. They began their journey together as husband and wife on October 26, 1963 in Eldon, IA. Shortly after Vic joined the United States Army where he proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in March of 1966. Upon returning home he began working at John Deere in Ottumwa. Vic and Sandra began their family and became the proud parents of three children: Sherry, Steve, and Carrie. Vic continued to work at John Deere until his retirement in December of 1996 and was a member of UAW, Local No. 74. With retirement came more time for the things he truly enjoyed: farming, fishing, hunting, mule riding, and spending time with his family. Every year he raised and cared for his sweet corn patch and always had his dogs by his side. Vic was an expert on the Des Moines River. The river had been a part of his life from the time he was a child and was a place where he felt most at home. When Vic was not outside enjoying what nature had to offer you might find him playing a hand of cards with friends. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend who will be deeply missed. Vic was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Mike "Poke" Streeby. Left to share his story is his loving wife, Sandra; three children Sherry (Jim) Chebuhar of Marshalltown, IA, Steve (Suzanne) Streeby of Eldon, IA, and Carrie (Tony) Teninty of Ottuwma, IA; five grandchildren, Samantha Manusuthakis, Cody Streeby, Kaitlyn Streeby, Matthew Streeby, and Chloe Teninty; two great grandchildren, Easton and Bryce Manusuthakis; one sister, Amy Dyke of Fremont, IA, as well as many extended family and friends.
