Nicholas "Nick" W. Copeland, 52 of Keosauqua died at 5:44 A.M. Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at Van Buren County Hospital, Keosauqua. A celebration of life with lunch served will be at the Keosauqua Fire Station from 11am to 1pm on Wednesday, September 15, 2021. Graveside committal of cremains will follow the celebration of life at Mt. Moriah Cemetery with Tim Sprouse officiating. Memorials to the Keosauqua Fire Department may be brought to the fire station during the celebration of life service or mailed to the family at 1002 7th Street, Keosauqua, IA 52565. Nick was born on September 15, 1968 in Ottumwa to Harvey Roy and Donna Jean Hootman Copeland. He spent all his childhood in Douds and graduated from Van Buren High School in 1987. Nick moved to Keosauqua after school and started working at Barker Company and later at Hillphoenix Specialty Products where he currently worked as a programmer. He had been there for 30 years. He married Donna Jean Devereaux on September 27, 2003 at their home in Keosauqua. Nick was a volunteer at the Douds Fire Department and joined the Keosauqua Fire Department after he moved to Keosauqua and is currently serving as the President. He was a former member of the Keosauqua Lions Club and spent several years assisting with the high school football and wrestling programs and was previously the junior high wrestling coach. Nick loved sprint car racing and he was a brick donor to the Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum in Knoxville. He also enjoyed college football, especially the Nebraska Cornhuskers from which he took some grief from his Iowa Hawkeye friends. He is survived by his wife, Donna Copeland of Keosauqua, two brothers Jim Copeland (Charlene) of Brownsboro, TX and Jon Copeland (Donna) of Pearl, MS, a sister Connie Waugh (Bill) of Libertyville, a sister-in-law, Karen Copeland of Loveland, CO, his Sprint Car Racing Family, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Copeland.
