Elizabeth M (Gray) Smith Obituary (1928

Elizabeth M. "Betty" Smith, 88, of Fairfield formerly of Douds and Keosauqua died at 1:52 A.M. Saturday November 19, 2016 at Jefferson County Health Center, Fairfield. She was born July 7, 1928 in Fairfield to Clinton and Jessie B. Purdy Gray and married Murl A. Smith. He died March 20, 2001. Betty attended Fairfield Schools. She lived in Douds for many years and drove a school bus for Douds Elementary and kept the books for her husband. Betty attended Zion Bible Church. She was a great cook and seamstress and enjoyed needlepointing. She is survived by a daughter Beverly Schafer (Joe) of Downers Grove, IL and a granddaughter Lisa Payson (John) of Illinois. In addition to her husband, Murl, she was preceded in death by a daughter Peggy Ross and a grandson, James Schafer. In accordance with her wishes her body has been cremated. A joint graveside service with her daughter Peggy Ross will be at 10:30 A.M. Monday November 28, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, east of Douds with Pastor Phil Ross officiating. Memorials to Zion Bible Church may be left at the cemetery or mailed to the family at 4505 Belmont Road, Downers Grove, IL 60515. Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua is handling the arrangements.
