Vergil Bradfield Obituary (1918

Vergil E. Bradfield, 97, of rural Batavia, formerly of Stockport died at 9:20 P.M. Wednesday July 29, 2015 at Parkview Care Center, Fairfield. He was born May 10, 1918 near Packwood to Verne and Lora Nelson Bradfield and married Emma Jane Nixon February 16, 1941 in Milan, MI. Vergil grew up in the Packwood community and moved as a youth with his family to rural Stockport. He graduated from Stockport High School, was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II in Europe where he flew 27 missions and earned the Air Medal with three clusters and Victory Medal. Following the war the Bradfields farmed near Stockport, retired to town in 1974 and moved to the Batavia community in 2011 to be near their daughter. Vergil was a member of Stockport United Methodist Church, Workman Lodge No. 634, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, Elvin E. Cecil Post No. 147 American Legion, Chapter 544 Order of Eastern Star all in Stockport, Scottish Rite and KAABA Shrine Temple, Davenport and served 18 years as a volunteer at Veteran's Hospital, Iowa City. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, playing cards and spending time with family and friends. He was a great friend who enjoyed helping others. Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Pamela Miller (David) of Batavia, four grandchildren, Penny Morgan, Paul Miller (Kristin), Stephen Miller (Heather) and Seth Miller (Diana) and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Clarice, Donald, and Delbert Bradfield, five sisters, Aura Keller, Edra Bradfield, Ruth Brown, Emily Laire and Lorna Jean Anderson and three siblings in infancy Funeral services will be at 3:00 P.M. Sunday August 2, 2015 at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua with Pastor Danny Cary officiating. Visitation will be 2-3 P.M. Sunday prior to the service at the funeral home. Masonic rites by Workman Lodge and Military honors by Elvin E. Cecil Post will follow the service. Cremation will follow the service with private burial of cremains in Spencer Cemetery, Stockport at a later date. Gifts to a memorial to be designated later by the family may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 1988 Dewberry Ave., Batavia, IA 52533
