Murreen Peterson Obituary (1922

Fairfield, Iowa Murreen K. Peterson, age 89 of 205 East Buchanan Ave., Fairfield and formerly of Council Bluffs and Decorah, Iowa died Wednesday February 22, 2012 at the Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield. She was born February 23, 1922 in Kossuth County, Iowa to Joseph and Emma Gangstee Tuttle. She grew up in Elmore, Minnesota and graduated in 1939 from Ledyard Consolidated Schools at Ledyard, Iowa. Murreen married Richard E "Pete" Peterson on November 16, 1945 at Elmore, MN. During World War II she worked at White Castle Restaurant in Minneapolis, MN. She worked at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. She has been a resident of Fairfield for the past 22 years.. She is a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Council Bluffs and First Lutheran Church in Fairfield. Murreen was the representative for the 5th ward for the Democratic Central Committee of Jefferson County and was nominated for District 2 Hall of Fame in 2010. She was honored for providing the most baby quilts from Iowa for the ABC Quilts Organization: "Murreen from Iowa" Deceased family members include her husband on August 10, 1990, her parents Joseph and Emma Tuttle, son Carl Joseph Peterson, sisters Alma Engelby, and Ethelyn Schaeffer and brothers Julius "Dewey" Tuttle and twins Noah and David Tuttle; 2 sons-in-law Tom Smith and Steve Wickham and a granddaughter Genivieve Peterson. Surviving are son Richard K. ( Linda ) Peterson Cedar Park, TX; daughters Lorene "Lori" Smith of Fairfield, IA, Marilyn Wickham of Des Moines and Joanne ( David ) Peterson-Chico of Madison County, Iowa. 13 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; one brother Arnold (Verna ) Tuttle of Albert Lea, MN. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday at the First Lutheran Church in Fairfield with Pastor Stacy Grau officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield. Graveside services and interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Council Bluffs, Iowa on Monday, February 27, 2012 at 1:00 P.M.. Memorials may be made to the family.
