Elinor Decker Obituary (1916

Elinor Decker, age 90, of 910 W. Jefferson Ave. Fairfield, Iowa, went home to be with the Lord at 12:40 am, Saturday, November 25, 2006. She was born February 5, 1916 in Glenwood, Minnesota. She was the daughter of I.B. (Berna) and Julia Belle Starr Nelson. Funeral services will be 1:30 pm, Tuesday, November 28th, 2006 at the Suburban Heights Baptist Church, Fairfield. Pastor Ed Parker will officiate at the service. Visitation will be one hour before funeral services at the church. Interment will be at the Richland Friends Cemetery at Richland. Elinor and Merle Bond Decker were united in marriage on June 20, 1935 in the home of her parents on East Burlington St, Fairfield with the Rev. S.P. Williamson officiating. She moved to Jefferson County in her early childhood and has lived in this county all of her life with the exception of eight years that she and her husband resided in Douds, Iowa. They moved back to Fairfield in 1989. Elinor was a member of the First Christian Church Fairfield for many years and in recent years attended Suburban Heights Baptist Church. She was employed as a clerk in several retail stores and retired from Fairfield Glove in 1982 where she was a leather glove inspector. In earlier years Elinor enjoyed sewing. She loved reading the Bible and spending time with her family. She is survived by three children, Berle (Janice) Decker of Omaha, Nebraska, Marna Benion of Lewisburg, Pennsylvania and Terrence (Dixie) Decker of Libertyville, Iowa. Five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Merle who died on Feb. 12, 2004, one brother Arnold Nelson and his five sisters, Josephine Myers, Doris Mann, Ilene Miller, Alice Perry and Helen Lathrop. Memorials may be given in Elinor''s name to the Suburban Heights Baptist Church of Fairfield.
